Apple recently switched over to using the Type-C USB standard for all their charging ports, so why not include that in the AirPods as well? This week, engineer Ken Pillionel revealed his design for the world's first USB-C Apple AirPods, and it's available on his new Indiegogo campaign to make the dream a reality. Currently, this modification only works on first and second-generation AirPods, so both AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have to rely on the Lightning cable for now.
The name might ring a bell because Pillonell is the man behind the world's first USB-C iPhone, the same one that nearly sold for $100,000 USD on eBay. Unfortunately, Pillonel found that this modification was more difficult than the iPhone, so he tried to make the final product resemble something Apple would actually release. Pillonel plans to release a plug-and-play kit in the future.
