Some people think that art is an essential subject for children at school while others think it is a waste of time. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

The question of whether art should be considered an essential subject in schools is a contentious one. While some argue that art is a vital part of a well-rounded education, others contend that it is a waste of time and resources. In my opinion, while there are certainly arguments to be made against prioritizing art education, the benefits of art education outweigh the potential drawbacks.

On the one hand, those who argue against art education may point to other subjects, such as mathematics or science, that they believe are more important for students to learn. Additionally, some may argue that art is a luxury that schools cannot afford, especially in times of economic hardship. Furthermore, some may argue that art education is not necessary for students who do not plan to pursue a career in the arts.

However, there are several reasons why art should be considered an essential subject in schools. Firstly, art education provides an opportunity for students to develop their creativity and imagination, which can be valuable skills in many different fields. Additionally, art education can help students develop critical thinking skills and improve their ability to analyze and interpret visual information. Furthermore, art education can have important social and emotional benefits, such as improving self-esteem and fostering a sense of community.

In conclusion, while there are certainly arguments to be made against prioritizing art education, I believe that the benefits of art education outweigh the potential drawbacks. Art education provides students with valuable skills and benefits that go beyond the realm of the arts, and it is important for schools to recognize and support these benefits. Therefore, I believe that art should be considered an essential subject in schools.
